MUMBAI (Thomson Financial) - Indian software company Northgate Technologies Ltd said its Hong Kong unit has formed a strategic partnership with the owner of China's largest internet portal, Tencent Holdings Ltd, to build and market a student-oriented social networking site in China.

No financial details were provided.

In a regulatory release, Northgate said the internet portal called 'Longhaier' will offer an online forum, campus information, games, interactive web applications, and information on overseas studies, job placements and scholarships.
